As the world leader in serving science, Thermo Fisher Scientific has both an interest in, and a responsibility for, inspiring tomorrow's scientists and engineers. The Thermo Fisher Foundation for Science was created to give back to our global community by supporting science students and broadening interest in the STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and math.
The Foundation helps to fund a range of initiatives, including university scholarships and an innovative library-based program to inspire a passion for science at all ages.
1) Massachusetts Math and Science Initiative – MMSI - Thermo Fisher is the largest donor to MMSI, which was organized by Mass Insight Education, is dedicated to closing the achievement gaps for underserved students in math and science education. The mission of the program is to inspire a greater number of students to enroll and excel in Advanced Placement (AP) classes.
2) Fitchburg Library - The company is working closely with the Friends of Fitchburg Library to establish a premier library at a location near one of our major sites.
3) Barnard College - To further promote higher education, Thermo Fisher is collaborating with Barnard College in order to renovate chemistry laboratories.
4) Community Action Council (CAC) - Our employee lead CAC's in the US and Europe provide hands-on volunteering services in local communities - tailored to our mission, employee interests and community needs. These encourage volunteerism and ongoing employee involvement.
5) Resource Area for Teaching- In June 2011, in an effort to support the Bay Area's teaching community, seven employees volunteered at Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help educators transform the learning experience through "hands-on" education that inspires the joy and discovery of learning.
